Family Fostercare Supporting LDWEW

Family Fostercare are proud to be taking part in Learning Disability Work Experience Week this year, a fantastic initiative from Mencap and Inclusive Employers.

LDWEW is about providing people with learning disabilities the chance to gain real, high quality and valuable work experience and to help demonstrate the benefits of employing someone with a learning disability to employers. Research identifies that almost 20% of adults with a learning disability in the UK are in some form of paid employment whereas 65% would like to be. Having access to work experience is the first and most important step to finding a job.

Making sure that fostered children are able to access the same opportunities as all other children is something Family Fostercare and our foster carers are passionate about, so we understand all too well how important this is for other groups in society whose access to equal opportunities are also often compromised. Family Fostercare Director, Granville Orange says, "We were already linked up with Mencap in Worcester, providing work experience for young people. We had a team of volunteers working on treating our fence panels over the summer, which they did a fantastic job on, I should say! They have stopped now for the winter, but following this Mencap approached us about taking part in LDWEW, and we were naturally keen to get involved."
