Caroline Plans to Conquer the Great Wall of China

Go Caroline!

Caroline, along with a small group of others, has signed up to walk the Great Wall of China in May 2017 and the countdown is on. But before this once in a lifetime opportunity, there's the small matter of raising £3,500 for her charity, Dove House Hospice.

Dove House Hospice is a charity providing excellent palliative care for people in their local community with life limiting illnesses. They offer physical, social and psychological therapies, which place the patient, not simply the illness, at the centre of everything they do. Every day they help patients and their loved ones at what can be one of the most difficult times in their lives. All the services provided by Dove House Hospice are completely free of charge and with annual costs of £6.7 million they rely totally on the generosity and support of the local community to continue their unique service for those most in need. Their motto is "We add life to days when days can't be added to life".

Caroline's epic challenge, which will culminate in a trek along the full length of the Great Wall of China, has already started and she has so far raised just over £1,000 of the target £3,500 (or more) which she needs to raise by May 2017. Along with her friend Emma, who is also raising £3,500, they have lined up a busy calendar of fund raising events right up to the end of the year including tombola’s and cake stalls at the local carboot sales, school film nights, a Lip Sync Battle at a venue in Hull, a Bingo Day at the local pub and raffles at her local boxing club.

Our intrepid Caroline has also managed to persuade some of the Yorkshire office foster carers and children to do a sponsored walk over the Humber Bridge to raise money towards her total, so it's turning into a real FFC family effort! She is also encouraging staff and foster families from our other offices to get in touch with her if they would like to help out with the fundraising - perhaps by holding a bingo night, raffle or tombola during a Foster Carer Support Group or training session - or if they have any novel ideas on ways to raise money.

We're hoping to post a few updates along the way on our website, but if you would like to keep a track of how Caroline is doing and what our very own Every Day Hero is up to then you can follow her updates and watch her fundraising total growing on https://chinatrek2017.everydayhero.com/uk/caroline

Caroline, we think you're amazing and we can't wait to see the pictures of you conquering the Great Wall of China. Good luck with the fundraising!
