My Life As A Courgette

The Courtyard in Hereford are offering our foster families and staff in the Herefordshire and Worcestershire area a discounted fee of only £3 per ticket to see this empowering and inspiring film animated film which is bound to resonate with our fostered children and all those who work with or are interested in working with looked after children.

Though the title does tackle some serious issues about families, addiction, love and loss, it is also hugely uplifting and a powerful story of positivity. It will spark conversation, and helps to normalise the experience of children that might be experiencing tough times, something that a big screen portrayal can achieve.

After his mother’s sudden death, nine-year-old Icare, known as ‘Courgette’, is befriended by a police officer, Raymond, who accompanies him to his new foster home filled with other orphans his age. At first he struggles to find his place in this often strange and hostile environment. Yet with Raymond’s help and his new-found friends, Courgette eventually learns to trust and love, as he searches for a new family of his own.

Nominated for the Academy Award and Golden Globe Best Animated Feature, Claude Barras's My Life as a Courgette tears up the rulebook for children’s cinema.

Brought to life through memorably bold character designs and expressive stop-motion animation, My Life as a Courgette soars with laughter, sorrow, joy, with a brutal and unsentimental honesty, and above all, stands as a testament to the resilience of the human heart.

"This stunning stop-motion animation set in an orphanage is as witty and insightful as it is quietly shocking." - Little White Lies

"expressive, subtle and beguiling" - Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian
