Supervising Social Worker
Family Fostercare West Midlands Fostering TeamI gained a BSC Econ degree in Sociology and Criminology and went on to complete a Masters in social work. Since qualifying I have continued with my professional development and completed additional training including DDP and a post qualifying award in Social Work, with children, young people, their families and carers. I have worked in a number of local authority teams; including fostering and 16+. I have also got experience of working with children with disabilities and unaccompanied asylum-seeking minors.
I chose to pursue a career in social work as I wanted to support and make a difference to the most vulnerable within our society. Initially I intended to work within Adult services, however during my social work training and completing a placement within children services, I realised the difference that can be made to the lives of children and Young people and I developed an interest in working with teenagers. I really enjoy working with foster carers and aiming for stability, best practice and positive outcomes for children and young people. I believe that foster carers can make a real difference to the lives of children and young people, who may have experienced significant trauma. I strive to follow a relationship-based practice approach in my practice with both carers, children and young people and believe every child should have a safe base where they can feel secure enough to explore and develop.
