Family Fostercare Yorkshire

Looked after children (6-18yrs) and foster carers are invited to join us for a Fun Consultation Day at our Beverley office on 27th September.

It promises to be a brilliant day with plenty of activities, snacks and even a little bit of magic! Most importantly, it will give everyone a great opportunity to let us know how we're doing and share their ideas on how we could do it even better.

There's plenty of entertainment and events planned throughout the day, from 10.30 until 4.30pm. Children will have the opportunity to design a poster and win a prize, make balloon models to take home, and enjoy some magical entertainment from Poncho Pete. Tea, coffee, drinks and snacks will be available throughout the day to keep us all well fuelled for the fun.

If you would like to come along, please confirm numbers with Kim, Jayne or Norma on 01482 870400.

Celebrating the Foster Family

Family Fostercare East Yorkshire is celebrating the fostering family this month by getting involved with the Fostering Network’s Sons and Daughters campaign.  The aim of the campaign, running throughout October, is to say thank you to the birth children of foster carers, whose role in and contribution to the foster care family is so important.
One of the worries we hear most often from potential new foster carers is how fostering will impact their own children. What if they don’t like the child that comes to stay? What if they miss out because the fostered young person needs so much attention? What if they feel left out?

When a birth child knows how important they are in the foster family they usually take great pride in their role of helping another young person enjoy a happier life

From our own first-hand experience we are able to reassure people that whilst deciding to foster is a big decision for all the family, young people are capable of more understanding and compassion than we sometimes give them credit for.  When a birth child knows how important they are in the foster family, and when everything is discussed fully and openly with them, both in formal meetings and whenever they want to talk, they usually take great pride in their role of helping another young person enjoy a happier life.  Without a doubt, the social skills, experience and ability to empathise that the sons and daughters of foster carers gain will serve them very well in their adult life.

To say thank you to these incredible young people and to all the foster family this year we are helping to pay for a fun day out to Flamingo Land for all our families. We’re sure everyone will have a great time, and we hope the sons and daughters of our foster carers will leave with a reminder of how important they are to us and to the young people they help to foster.
